Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson warns Pennsylvania town of disaster

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson warned residents of a rural Pennsylvania town Thursday that disaster may strike there because they “voted God out of your city” by ousting school board members who favored teaching intelligent design.

All eight Dover, Pa., school board members up for re-election were defeated Tuesday after trying to introduce “intelligent design” — the belief that the universe is so complex that it must have been created by a higher power — as an alternative to the theory of evolution.

“I’d like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don’t turn to God. You just rejected him from your city,” Robertson said on the Christian Broadcasting Network’s “700 Club.”

Eight families had sued the district, claiming the policy violates the constitutional separation of church and state. The federal trial concluded days before Tuesday’s election, but no ruling has been issued.

Later Thursday, Robertson issued a statement saying he was simply trying to point out that “our spiritual actions have consequences.”

“God is tolerant and loving, but we can’t keep sticking our finger in his eye forever,” Robertson said. “If they have future problems in Dover, I recommend they call on Charles Darwin. Maybe he can help them.”

Gaining Younger Looking Skin The Benefits Of Botox Injections

Posted: February 8th, 2020 by

By Adrianna Noton

For those who want to gain a fresher younger looking appearance the benefits of botox injections should not be underestimated. Derived from the bacterium clostridium botulinum, botox is a type of protein created in the laboratory under strictly monitored conditions. It is given in small amounts as a treatment to help temporarily erase deep lines and wrinkles. It works to smooth the skin and typically makes the skin appear younger. It can also help to slow down and halt the formation of new wrinkles.

People typically develop lines on their face as they age. Skin generally becomes thinner and dryer. Frown lines often appear on the forehead and smile lines form around the mouth and corners of the eyes. Having this type of cosmetic procedure works by stopping the contraction of muscles in these areas, causing wrinkles to soften.

A small needle is used to inject the areas being treated. The procedure normally involves having one to three injections per muscle. It is normally injected in facial areas where lines occur such as around the forehead, mouth and eye area. People often report a slight stinging sensation but no real discomfort.

Many people welcome this treatment not only for its anti ageing effects but for its ability to make the lips fuller. Lips often lose their fullness with age and become thinner. Whilst cosmetics can be used to make the mouth look bigger the effects don’t last and do not always look natural. It can be used around the lip line to give more sensual lips. The effects can look extremely natural and can be gently added to as needed.

People also use botox for a range of other advantages such as helping to treat excessive sweating. It has also shown itself to be extremely effective in treating migraine headaches. It is thought that it works by blocking pain nerves sending messages to the brain. Many people report that they see a drastic reduction in the amount of headaches they experience and that any future headaches are much less severe. It has been reported to have virtually no side effects making it a good alternative to pain stopping medication.

There are a variety of places that offer this procedure including a cosmetic clinics, beauty clinics, dental surgeries and spas. It is likely to be of benefit to make sure that it is done by a properly qualified professional. It can normally be carried out very quickly and easily. People can get on with their day to day activities after treatment. Some people even choose to have it carried out in their lunch hour returning to work immediately afterwards.

The effects of this type of beauty procedure normally last around three months depending on the location it is used in, how much is used and the individual. The effects wear off very gradually so that it can be slowly topped up. Many people choose to have regular injections as a way of preventing lines from forming and giving a long lasting effects.

Many people find that there are a wide range of benefits of botox injections. The effects on the skin allow people to feel confident in their appearance and enjoy the look of smooth line free skin. Its ability to treat conditions such as excessive sweating and migraines has given those that suffer from these conditions the opportunity to get on with enjoying their life.

Al Sharpton speaks out on race, rights and what bothers him about his critics

At Thanksgiving dinner David Shankbone told his white middle class family that he was to interview Reverend Al Sharpton that Saturday. The announcement caused an impassioned discussion about the civil rights leader’s work, the problems facing the black community and whether Sharpton helps or hurts his cause. Opinion was divided. “He’s an opportunist.” “He only stirs things up.” “Why do I always see his face when there’s a problem?”

Shankbone went to the National Action Network’s headquarters in Harlem with this Thanksgiving discussion to inform the conversation. Below is his interview with Al Sharpton on everything from Tawana Brawley, his purported feud with Barack Obama, criticism by influential African Americans such as Clarence Page, his experience running for President, to how he never expected he would see fifty (he is now 53). “People would say to me, ‘Now that I hear you, even if I disagree with you I don’t think you’re as bad as I thought,'” said Sharpton. “I would say, ‘Let me ask you a question: what was “bad as you thought”?’ And they couldn’t say. They don’t know why they think you’re bad, they just know you’re supposed to be bad because the right wing tells them you’re bad.”

Sirius CEO visits congress

Sirius CEO visits congress

Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin appeared before a newly formed Antitrust Task Force, a sub-committee of the House Judiciary Committee, on Wednesday last week in Washington, D.C. to defend the proposed U.S. merger between XM and Sirius satellite radio services.

The hearing, carried live on C-SPAN, was attended by representatives from various competing broadcast companies. The representatives challenged the merger deal, and some speakers were openly hostile to Karmazin and to satellite radio in general, while other speakers were more civil.

Several times during the debate, the discussion centered on the failed merger deal between the two satellite television networks DirecTV and Echostar. The comparison between this proposed radio merger and the failed television merger was settled to some extent with an understanding that nearly all television viewers now use either cable or satellite to view available programming. Televised programming content is now delivered mainly in the form of a subscription, rather than airwave transmissions.

Unlike television programming, most radio listeners use over the air receivers to listen to free programming content supported advertisers.

“We come to this hearing with an open mind, but we recognize that the companies have the obligation to convince the Congress, the regulators, and most importantly, the American People that this combination will improve the competitive playing field and benefit consumers,” said John Conyers, the sub-committee chairman. To determine the legality of this merger, Congress first needs to decide whether a combined XM and Sirius would be a monopoly, as the only satellite radio provider in the United States, or whether the new company will actually be in competition with other forms of radio-like entertainment, according to Conyers. The hearing focused on alternatives such as Internet radio, terrestrial radio, portable audio devices, and emerging services, such as cell phone services and WiMax.

Correction — August 24, 2015 These briefs incorrectly describe BP as ‘British Petroleum’. In fact, such a company has not existed for many years as BP dropped this name when becoming a multinational company. The initials no longer stand for anything.

What Is The Best And Easiest Way To Clean Window Blinds?

Posted: February 5th, 2020 by

Find Out More About:

Submitted by: Christopher Smith

Every window in your home has some type of window covering, and after some time goes by, they can get dirty and all dusty. Obviously, their original purpose, which was to provide beauty and comfort in your home, is no longer being served. In addition to looking terrible, dirty window blinds can pose a health concern. As such, if you havent in a long time, its important to consider cleaning your blinds immediately. The good news is, cleaning window blinds is not really hard if you only know how to go about the process.

Window blinds are made up of different materials. They can be found as metal blinds, wood blinds, cane, fabric, and others. How you clean your window blinds will depend on what material your blinds are made of. Therefore, its key to follow all the cleaning instructions properly so that the quality of the blinds is not affected and its useful life is preserved.

The good news is, its not as difficult a task as it seems. Given the health implications of not cleaning your window treatments on a regular basis, this task should be given a higher priority than it has in the past.

To help you in your cleaning task, read on for some helpful tips:

Aluminum Mini Blinds

For your aluminum mini blinds, use ordinary clean and soft dust cloths. You can also use dust cloths which are chemically treated as well as the brush attachments of your vacuum cleaner. You may also find other household aids that you can use, which act in a similar manner. Make sure that you clean your aluminum blinds regularly so that dust is easily brushed off. Since the slats have a painted and smooth surface, cleaning it is quite easy.

If you want to use the vacuum for your aluminum blinds, use the brush attachment and make sure that you tilt the slats up first, and then down in order to reach the top and entire bottom surfaces.

You can also wash your mini blinds using a mild detergent and a damp sponge or cloth. Never use hot water. If you want to take down the blinds, do so and wash them in a tub of cold/warm water.

Wood Window Blinds

If you have wood window blinds at home, it will require extra care, especially if its true wood blinds. You should not wash the wood blind because even humid weather can discolor or warp the blinds. The slats of wood blinds are also soft and dust can be easily removed by brushing them. You can use soft dust cloths and vacuum cleaner in cleaning wood blinds.

By using the brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner, cleaning window blinds is very easy. However, for those individuals who don t own a vacuum cleaner, you can try your old socks or cotton gloves in wiping the blinds slats. You can also use your small paintbrush to dust the window blinds slats. If the dust can t be removed easily, then use a damp cloth and wipe them off.

Some are hesitant to take down their blinds because the strings may rot. If this is your problem, then soak your window blinds in vinegar. The blinds should be open to prevent slats from sticking together. Leave them for about thirty minutes. After the designated time, rinse your blinds thoroughly and hang the blinds outside. Wait until the blinds are dry and then wipe the blinds slats with fabric softener. This way, dust build-up can be prevented.

Do yourself a favor, and clean your window blinds regularly. Not only does it make it easier, its also ensures a healthy living environment for your family. With the right tools, you can clean your blinds in less than an hour, all the while prolonging the life of your window blinds.

US FEMA aid site only supports Windows with Internet Explorer

US FEMA aid site only supports Windows with Internet Explorer

Posted: February 4th, 2020 by

Thursday, September 8, 2005

The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) website (for requesting disaster aid) is only functional for applicants using the latest version of the Internet Explorer web browser on the Microsoft Windows operating system. Users with other web browsers, such as Netscape, Opera, Safari, Firefox, or operating systems other than Windows, are effectively screened out of the site, which gives them a message that they need to download Internet Explorer version 6 or call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 to register.

Relief workers are setting up many computer kiosks for evacuees to use. These kiosks are built from donated computers, many of which are unable to run Windows and/or Internet Explorer. Most of these kiosks use LiveCD versions of Linux, leaving evacuees unable to fill out aid forms.

A spokesperson for FEMA told MSNBC they were aware of the problem, and were trying to resolve the issue. They were, however, unable to provide an estimate of when the problem would be solved. Mike Quealy, a FEMA spokesperson, said the issue occurred because this tool was originally designed for in-house use by people working at the call center.

Telling the Opera web browser to spoof its user agent, by identifying itself as Internet Explorer, appears to trick the FEMA website into allowing the user to fill out the form. Firefox users can install the Prefbar extension (http://prefbar.mozdev.org/), and use the “User Agent Spoof” dropdown to achieve the same effect. Safari users can use the Debug drop-down menu (http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/faq.html#anchor14), and use the “User Agent” option to achieve the same effect. Other options are to run Windows and Internet Explorer in an emulator such as VirtualPC on the Mac or VMware on Linux. This option is slow and requires the user to already own or purchase a license for Windows and the emulator software. Purchasing the software can cost several hundred dollars. Implementing a software compatibility layer, like the GPL wine project, allows the user to run certain Windows software on Linux, but still requires valid licenses for Windows.

Two dead in Michigan college shooting

Two dead in Michigan college shooting

Posted: February 4th, 2020 by

Friday, April 10, 2009

Two people are dead at a Michigan, United States community college in what police are calling a murder-suicide on Friday, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The victims, a 28-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were found in the Fine Arts Building of Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Michigan.

The Free Press reports that the suspected gunman entered classroom F-111 with a shotgun, killed the female and then shot himself. The two were in the same theater class, but police have yet to determine if there was a further relationship between the two.

“The original call was some kind of assault … shots in the building,” Police Deputy Chief Gregg Brighton told the Free Press.

“Officers responded to the scene, were able to get a perimeter on the building,” Brighton said. “An entry team entered the south hallway … as they entered they heard another gunshot. Officers were able to enter one of the rooms, and discovered two deceased parties. We cleared the building.”

Dearborn police and campus police secured the crime scene after evacuating some students from the building. The Free Press also reports that four Michigan State Police detectives are assisting local authorities in the investigation.

The school was locked down for several hours shortly after a 911 call was received. The lockdown has now been lifted.

The school will be closed for the rest of the day and the school will be offering counseling services.
