On Tuesday, Italian police charged homeless forty-year-old Massimo Galioto with the aggravated murder of Beau Solomon, a college student from Wisconsin, US. The police arrested the man after finding the student’s body in the Tiber River in Rome on Monday. The defendant has attorney Michele Vincelli.

According to reports, Massimo Galioto is homeless and lived in a tent under a bridge. Italian police said two witnesses reported they saw someone being thrown from the Garibaldi bridge into the Tiber River. The authorities also reportedly obtained CCTV footage near the bank of the river, showing the incident.

A homeless woman sharing a tent with Massimo Galioto said she saw Massimo Galioto and Beau Solomon fighting each-other, and then saw Beau Solomon fall into the river. The woman alleged Beau Solomon was drunk and the company included two people from North Africa.

On Monday, Italian police found Beau Solomon’s body near Guglielmo Marconi bridge about three miles (five kilometres) downstream from Trastevere, where the student was last seen at about 1AM in G-Bar in Piazza Trilussa on Friday night after his first day in Italy. Solomon was beginning a summer school at John Cabot University. His parents arrived on Monday using emergency passports.

The body had no mobile device or wallet, suggesting to local authorities it was a robbery. The body also had a head wound and bloody shirt, the victim’s 23-year-old brother Cole Solomon told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Monday.

Last week on Friday morning, Beau Solomon’s parents received bank alerts. According to the student’s brother Jake Solomon, the bank told his parents Beau’s bank card was charged “thousands of dollars”. Authorities later confirmed the amount as about 1,500 euro (about US$1700). The credit card of the victim was charged in Milan over 300 miles away from Rome on Friday.

Beau Solomon was aged 19. He came to Italy to attend summer school on Thursday. Beau Solomon did not attend university student orientation next morning, and the institution reported him missing to the local authorities at 9PM.

Frequently Asked Questions On Services Of An Electrician

Posted: March 31st, 2022 by Admin

1. Can the small electric tasks at home be managed on our own?

In Australian mainland, it is illegal for anyone to carry out any domestic electrical jobs such as wiring or installations of appliances without a license. Its not just risky but even if the work is upto the marking standards, it will not pass certification unless a qualified electrician undertakes it. This is even more important if you ever plan to sell the property. Further, the risk is always there or your near and dear ones since it’s not assured and tested by a professional.

2. Why does an electrician need to be licensed?

Only a licensed electrician can grant a Certificate of Compliance. It is essentially a legal document for the government which is signed by your qualified electrician on completion of the job. It basically states that the electric work was completed in compliance with the set standards of Electricity Act 1996 and hence meets all the necessary safety protocols. The Certificate can only be issued by a licensed electrician and remains with the customer for record keeping.

3. What is the avg. cost of having an electrician do repairs/installations?

Costs lie anywhere between $50 to $100 per hour, completely depending on the electrician’s experience and qualifications and the complexity of the task at hand. This fees only includes the service charges of the electrician and not any parts or spare tools.

4. How is an RCD different from a fuse?

A residual current device is just not designed to stop a circuit from overloading. It is used to prevent a fatal shock if someone touches a live wire. This level of protection is far beyond what you can get with the typical older wire fuses found in homes that were built more than a decade ago.

5. What all services can an electrician provide?

Depending on whether you are looking to get your home serviced or a commercial/ official space of yours, services and their scale varies. Services can include maintenance jobs & servicing, installation of Home Theatre & Multi-Room Audio, full house wiring, data communications, Ventilation Solutions, Lighting design & installations/audit/repair, AC servicing and installation, Security CCTVs and alarms, Heat Pumps, Solar Power Systems, Underfloor heating, automated home systems.

6. What does Home Automation essentially mean?

By better designing, programming and integrating your electrical appliances, clever home automation enables your family to enjoy greater comfort and security in your home. By making it easier for you to pick and integrate the home automation that best fits you and your family, we help you build your dream home.

‘Future proofing’, easy usage, aesthetics or energy savings include home automation advantages.

The spectrum of home automation can range from organised cabling for telephone, video intercom, internet, LAN and video, to automatic control of electric motorised blinds, motorised roller shutters, watering, air-conditioning, exhaust fans, ceiling fans, and other appliances, through home theatre and multi-room audio, automated lighting control, protection and keyless entry.

7. What is Smart Wiring? Can I install it myself?

Smart Wiring is an industry wiring standard that allows numerous telephones, Internet, fax, PAY-TV options, as well as security, audio, home automation lighting, and garden irrigation features to be accessed once installed.

The professional installers are not just experienced but also highly qualified. They are licenced and electrical cablers, who have also undergone specific accreditation training in the Smart Wired system. Only Smart Wired certified installers can install the system.

8. What makes copper wiring a first choice compared to other?

The copper wiring solutions meet all the Australian Standards and work well universally for all systems alike. Its installation is also cheaper, the product is more durable and effective than any other system that includes optic fibre or wireless systems. Its uniqueness lies in the ability to carry large amounts of data smoothly and quickly.

Canadian media company Bell Globemedia to acquire rival CHUM

Canadian media company Bell Globemedia to acquire rival CHUM

Posted: March 31st, 2022 by Admin

Wednesday, July 12, 2006

Canadian media company CHUM Limited has announced that it has agreed to be acquired by larger rival Bell Globemedia Inc. for $1.7 billion CAD cash, bringing the CTV and Citytv broadcast-television networks and such specialty channels as MuchMusic, TSN and Bravo! under the same corporate umbrella.

Shareholders will receive $52.50 per common share of CHUM and $47.25 per Class B (non-voting) share. The estate of the late Allan Waters, who died late last year, has agreed to tender all its shares to the bid, netting the Waters family nearly $450 million.

In a joint statement, CHUM’s chairman, Jim Waters, said, “In Bell Globemedia’s offer, we not only found value for shareholders, but confidence that we would be placing CHUM in the hands of an owner with the financial resources and track record to continue to grow and build on our collective legacy.”

Globemedia CEO Ivan Fecan added, “We are able to make this premium offer because Bell Globemedia is clearly the most logical buyer of CHUM. There is a unique strategic fit to our operations that can make the united company a stronger national champion in broadcasting. We intend to maintain and build the valuable CHUM brands and develop more opportunities for Canadian programming.” He added that CTV and Citytv will remain separate networks and “will maintain separate and independent news divisions in order to ensure a continued diversity and competition in news coverage.”

In a separate release, CHUM announced it would be cutting 281 jobs at its stations across the country, particularly at its Citytv stations in western Canada. Effectively immediately, evening newscasts at CKVU-TV Vancouver, CKEM-TV Edmonton, CKAL-TV Calgary and CHMI-TV in the Winnipeg market are being eliminated, with plans for a new newsmagazine tentatively titled In Your City at the three Prairie stations, and more resources being put into each station’s local version of Breakfast Television. Less drastic changes are planned for its A-Channel stations in smaller markets. The company said these changes will result “in a significant reduction in staffing and operating costs.”

The companies said that they expect to sell CHUM’s A-Channel stations, as well as Alberta educational broadcaster Access, to third parties, despite CTV’s historical ties to several of them. Many of the A-Channel stations were originally acquired by CHUM from Baton Broadcasting, the predecessor of Bell Globemedia, in 1997, as part of a trade that sent CHUM’s ATV and ASN assets in Atlantic Canada to Baton and allowed Baton to acquire the CTV network itself.

Despite CHUM’s ownership of MuchMusic and CTV’s recent launch of MTV Canada, the companies claim their specialty channels are “complementary” and did not indicate any sale plans.

Bell Globemedia is currently majority-owned by BCE Inc. but is awaiting regulatory approval for a restructuring involving the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, Torstar Corp., and the Thomson family. In the interim, the takeover offer will be made by a new company owned by the proposed new shareholder structure.

World Trade Organization allows Antigua to ignore US$21 million of US copyright per year

Posted: March 30th, 2022 by Admin

Saturday, December 29, 2007

Arbitrators at the World Trade Organization (WTO) have granted the Caribbean country of Antigua and Barbuda a special dispensation to ignore United States copyright law.

In their report, the WTO panel stated that Antigua possessed “no effective trade sanctions against the USA” and agreed to allow the country to ignore up to US$21 million worth of US copyrights a year. While this amount falls significantly short of the US$3.4 billion per year dispensation that Antigua was seeking, it is far higher than the US$500,000 per year allocation that US negotiators were pushing for.

The ruling comes at the end of a five year legal contest between Antigua and the USA regarding the USA’s blocking of offshore online gambling sites. Because many of these sites were located in Antigua, the Antiguan government filed a complaint with the WTO saying that the US prohibition constituted unlawful restriction of trade. When the WTO agreed, Antigua pressed for US$3.4 billion in punitive damages. They asked to have this penalty assessed as permission to copy US intellectual property, since there was no trade embargo that Antigua could impose on the US to collect the amount for itself. The panel agreed that Antigua had no way to collect punitive damages through trade sanctions. However, they lowered the amount of damages to US$21 million per year.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Posted: March 30th, 2022 by Admin

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

The New Trend In Footwear Technology

Posted: March 29th, 2022 by Admin

By Lanbo Jiang

Footwear industry the main driving factors of technological development, most likely in the following areas:

(1) Environmental legislation

Environmental regulations will address new environmental problems further legislation. Which may include industrial material recycling and reuse, and limit the production and use of chemicals. In order to meet environmental regulations, the footwear industry will have to take corresponding measures, development of new processes and technologies. The use of chemical products, there will be more limited, which could force the footwear industry to develop new materials, or use more expensive materials.

Will conduct an internal re allocation process in order to achieve a limited amount of solvent required (currently 5 tons per year per office), in particular adhesive and synthetic soles spraying.Surface engineering technology will contribute to the improvement of adhesive properties, which have a variety of adhesives are available to address some of the so far still can not quite believe bonding or adhesive bonding surface of the problem. If the strict environmental control, and the industry is unable to break through the limit does not dissolve adhesives, quality management, the pressure will force the industry to accept paste process, this will force the industry uses, such as welding voltage, or other bonding technique. Otherwise, the production department had to move to areas with less stringent environmental regulations.Safety is a key issue, more and more productive sectors, will be to hold a safety permit.

(2) High Performance Materials

In addition to finding environmentally friendly shoe in order to overcome the environmental constraints are always brought, the market also need to develop high performance materials to meet the growing consumer made good quality and high comfort requirements. In addition, the development of materials science will show a continuous growth and comprehensive development of a more coherent focus on the types of materials. Can be expected to be more and more synthetic materials instead of natural leather.Genetic engineering will make animals more consistency and predictability. The future development of bio engineering, may have developed a real man made leather. Currently, research focuses on greater use of leather and tannery and shoe factory closer together.Successful suppliers will soon cut the leather tannery. They would choose to re locate to close their main source, their focus will be on the supply chain co operation between, and will target such as: innovation, development, improve performance and so on.

(3) Information Technology

Visual aided design and CAD CAM (computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing) system to promote the application of technology in the production area, to maintain a critical position. PDM (Product Data Management System) applications will be considered to accelerate productivity and to explore the design, manufacturing potential of the key. The continuous development of CAD CAM technology, really has become the footwear industry’s core information systems. Information technology resources will be integrated computer network in widespread use.

(4) Technology and Equipment

Footwear technology development results will gradually be effective because the shortage of high quality leather, resulting in new technology is likely to reduce the use of leather, or substitution of new materials, and other factors will also affect the supply of leather. For example: ethics or vegetarian movement, although it does not mean the next shoe will have a significant impact, but it’s out of leather shoes made the whole industry will have far reaching influence. The application of the structure will increase endurance, because it has high comfort, flexibility and the advantages of saving materials, products using this technology also increase the variety. Flexible soles with a variety of modeling techniques continue to improve the performance of footwear will increase faster, the result will bring a wider choice and more cost effective.

Equipment development will be the quality, stability and common goal. Reduce the cost of equipment development is still one of the elements. Process Automation is another key aspect still, it will improve the quality and stability, but in the footwear industry will maintain a labor intensive comprehensive.Advanced vision systems and sensors can be enhanced quality control capability. With the global economic growth and rising cost of raw materials, closed style upper suture and closed automatically operate on the shoe manufacturers would be the inevitable choice.Shoe making equipment manufacturers in the past 10 years, has been globalization or the East, thus, the influence of European manufacturers have gradually disappeared. Of course, in the foreseeable future, the Italian shoe making equipment in the industry will maintain an important position.

Signals indicate Texas economy continues to improve

Posted: March 29th, 2022 by Admin

Sunday, April 29, 2012

As many states across the US continue to struggle financially, many individuals, including some economists report multiple positive indicators for Texas.

The chief economist with Comerica Bank told media sources this week that most of the improvements are attributed to strong creations of jobs in both the energy and manufacturing and services sectors. More specifically, that report called the state’s recent job growth, “robust”.The state’s unemployment rate in March was more than 1% lower than the nationwide rate, according to recent data.

When asked her opinion about the state’s present economic trajectory, Chantal Woodhull, a middle school teacher in Tyler, Texas told Wikinews, “It’s getting better.” Other sources indicate slight improvements in the real estate sector.

According to a recent report, retail job growth in Houston outstretched all other states, increasing its number of workers by over 4%. Across the US, retail jobs are improving at a slow pace in many large metropolitan areas.

NHL: Vancouver Canucks showcase new uniform

Thursday, August 30, 2007

The Vancouver Canucks, hockey team to Vancouver, British Columbia, unveiled it’s new home and away uniforms today. Keeping the trade-mark Orca, the jersey has remixed the colors as well as adding a green stripe for both the home and away uniforms. This is the 5th jersey the team has gone through since 1970 when the team was founded.

The redesign has been met with some criticisms. John Carter a graphics arts instructor at a local college was quoted as calling the redesign an “utter disappointment.”

The design uses the same core colors in the original design, and on the back it also has their original jersey’s hockey stick symbol. The president and CEO of the Canucks, Chris Zimmerman, recognizes this saying, “Our goal when we set out was to celebrate our heritage and to design a sweater that reflects our extraordinary city and province. “We wanted to unveil a sweater that reflects our past and our future.” Zimmerman also went on to say the design represents, “who we are and the connection to the community.”

Glasgow’s Common Weal launch; ‘Not me first. All of us first’

Posted: March 25th, 2022 by Admin

Monday, December 16, 2013

Glasgow —Last weekend, December 8, The Reid Foundation, a left-leaning think-tank, launched The Common Weal, a vision for a more socially just and inclusive post-Independence Scotland. Five- to six-hundred turned up for the event, billed as “[a] ‘revolution’ … with T-shirts and dancing” by the Sunday Herald, and held in The Arches club and theatre, under Glasgow’s Central Street Station.

Wikinews’ Brian McNeil travelled to Glasgow to attend, walking through the city’s festively decorated George Square, and busy shopping streets, to the venue under Hielanman’s Umbrella.

More known for theatre, live music, and club nights, organisers in The Arches confirmed around 800 had signed up for the free Sunday afternoon event. The crowd was a mix of all ages, including families with young childen. Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai entertained the early arrivals by DJ-ing until the launch video for the Common Weal was screened.

The Common Weal present themselves as “an emerging movement which is developing a vision for economic and social development in Scotland which is distinct and different from the political orthodoxy that dominates politics and economics in London.” Contrasting current “me first politics” against concerns of ordinary Scots, the launch video’s opening, monochrome half, stresses everyday common concerns: “Will I have a pension I can survive on when I retire?”, “I miss my local library”, “Public transport is so bad it’s hard to get to work”; and, “Why can we always find money to bail out banks but not to protect public services?”, “Why is it always the poor, the disabled, and immigrants who get the blame?”

The preferred vision offered by the Common Weal, “Not me first, all of us first”, makes up the more-aspirational second-half of the film, advocating a national fund for industry, taking the nation’s energy into collective ownership, building quality new public housing, strengthening the welfare state, and ending tax evasion. Throughout the event a distinction between these ‘popular politics’, which experience wide support, and the derogatory ‘populist’ label, often used to dismiss such calls for a fairer society, was emphasised.

Comedienne Janey Godley took over following the film, to compère the afternoon, and introduce Reid Foundation director Robin McAlpine. With the mixed audience, Godley made avoiding profanity — due to the presence of children — a theme of her warm-up; although, the humour remained fairly adult in nature.

McAlpine sketched out the movement’s hopes and plans. After thanking those who were giving their time for free, he characterised modern politics as “[…] a game that is played by a small number of professionals, in a small number of rooms, in a small number of expensively-rented premises, across Scotland — and across Britain. It’s become a thing people do as a profession, and the rest of us are all supposed to applaud them — or stand back — nod our heads every four years, and be glad for it.” With a receptive audience, he continued: “The idea that politics is something that ordinary people cannae talk about is one of the great achievements of the right-wing [over] the last thirty to forty years in Britain”; remarking, to applause, “they scared us aff.”

On discussions around the country, he claimed that “across Scottish politics, […] the people that want this, … ‘me first’ politics, there’s not many of them. The people that want Common Weal politics, all of us first politics, I’m meeting them everywhere. […] Everyone I meet wants this, a decent politics that puts people first. […] We wanted to find a way to communicate an idea of a politics which work for all the people who those politics seek to govern, not just a few of them. People don’t understand or recognise the language of politics any more, so we want to change that language.”.

Crediting the Sunday Herald newspaper for an opportunity to share some ideas underpinning the Common Weal, McAlpine was scathing in his criticism of mainstream coverage of the independence debate: “There’s this massive debate. It’s not in the mainstream.” Seeking to “get a real debate going, about a really strong vision for a future for Scotland, it’s hard. They’re still doing IFS, accounting this, and another paper from a Whitehall that. And, we’ll all debate things that nobody really cares about, interminably, until they all go away for good.” On the current political debate, he remarked: “If mainstream politics fails to recognise what is really going on in Scotland just now, then that is its problem. […] Someone is going to offer ordinary people what they want, and when they do, everything will change.”

Urging the crowd to get involved, he said: “If we can create a popular politics, that ordinary people care about, and talk about, and work[s], we can take a grip of Scotland. We can decide the future politics of Scotland, and standing around waiting for professional politicians to,… disappoint us less than they always do, does not have to be the way we do this anymore.” He concluded, “It genuinely is time for a politics that puts all of us first.”

Janey Godley took the microphone, as McAlpine left the stage to cheers and applause; joking about the ‘rabble-rousing’ tone of the speech she then introduced David Whyte of Tangent Design, creator of the Common Weal’s logo.

Whyte explained they hoped the simple image would come to represent the “all of us first” philosophy, and “a new way of doing things”. He was not the first to jokingly remark that the four-line graphic — a triangle, with a balanced line on top of it — would be an easily-applied piece of graffiti.

Politics, and the launch of the movement’s logo, then took more of a back-seat; the rest of the event more in-keeping with having a party, and the festive decorations elsewhere around the city centre. Godley, and fellow Scottish joker Bruce Morton, provided more barbed comedy. Singer Karine Polwart encouraged the crowd to sing along to a song she said was written on her way to the party, and Actor Tam Dean Burn read a speech from the 16th century Scottish play “Satire of the three estates” — given by the character John Common Weal, representing the common man — where the deeds and behaviour of the ruling classes are such that, if done by a common man, they’d be hanged.

Scotland’s Independence referendum is to take place next year, September 18. This was a repeated election pledge of the Scottish National Party (SNP) — who moved from leading a minority government, to an outright majority in the devolved parliament’s 2011 general election — making good on their promise by announcing in January 2011 their intent to hold the referendum in autumn 2014.

The question being put to the electorate is: “Should Scotland be an independent country?” A “Yes” vote would be followed with negotiations to bring to an end the early eighteenth-century ‘Union of the Parliaments’. The SNP has proposed Scotland retain Elizabeth II as head of state, a position she holds on the basis of the century-earlier Union of the Crowns.

How Can I Build Muscle Mass And Lose Weight At The Same Time?

Posted: March 24th, 2022 by Admin

By Chris Chew

As a fitness personal trainer and weight loss consultant, I am often asked this question,”Can I lose weight and build muscle size at the same time?”

Now let me ask you a question. If you are building muscle mass, then you are building body tissues and since muscles are dense body tissues, they are heavy. That being the case, when building muscles, you must be gaining and not losing weight right?

What these folks actually meant was that whether they can lose body fat and build muscle mass at the same time. Yes, it is possible to lose fat and build muscles at the same time. However, the process can be rather complicated and it takes alot of discpline and knowledge to do that. Furthermore, results may be even slower than the conventional 2 steps bulking up and cutting down phase method.

You see, losing fat and gaining muscles are at odds with each other. This is because to lose body fat weight, you have to eat less calories than the energy your body used up in your daily activities. On the other hand, to gain muscles you have to eat more calories than your body used as its energy source. So they are contradictoins. So how to achieve the desired result simultaneously?

Well, as I said, it can be done but is quite complicated. This is the reason why most professional bodybuilders train in 2 phases. The bulking up phase and the cutting down phase.

The bulking up phase is when the bodybuilders train to put on muscle mass and don’t even think of losing fat. In this process, they will actually be putting on alot of weight. They will put on muscle weight as as well as some weight from body fat because they have to eat alot to put on huge muscle mass.

When these bodybuilders put on enough muscles, they will then begin the cutting phase. It will also be alot easier to lose fat now because all the muscles they put on will help them to burn calories fast. Yes, muscles burn more calories because they need calories to sustain them.So these body builders become natural fat burner with their high metabolism at this stage.

The cutting phase is when the bodybuilders cut fat from all over their body to get that ripped definition. For ordinary people in this phase, they will get to see their body toned up nicely, their six pack abs will also begin to show. So if you want to have a well sculpted toned body, then take this 2 step approach to build muscles first and then cut the body fat when you achieve the muscle size you wanted.
