Microsoft Taiwan, IGS, GameFlier, and Softstar win the Popular Game Voting of 2008 Taipei Game Show

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

During the fourth day of the 2008 Taipei Game Show, held at the Taipei World Trade Center, visitors voted for their favourite participating companies and games at the “Popular Game Voting” competition.

According to the organizer Taipei Computer Association (TCA), this is the first-ever vote. It has two main categories, quality of the game itself and quality of the presentation at the convention. In the game section there were four categories: leisure game, PC console game, online RPG, and upcoming games. Balancing the vote, booth setup and stage activity were included. If a company won an award in this category, its notoriety is expected to rise and the company could see a great deal of opportunities to market games or its brand to the world.

Aside from the presentation class, winners from the game class were decided by votes from on-site, local gaming magazines, and the official website.

In the end, Microsoft Taiwan won all of the categories of the popular presentation class. In the game voting class, International Games Systems Inc. (IGS) won both popular leisure and upcoming game categories. Soft-World and Softstar Corp. respectively won popular online RPG and PC console game categories.

Brazil’s Minas state stops sales of Toyota Corolla

Friday, April 23, 2010

Minas, one of the largest states of Brazil, has stopped the sale of the Toyota Corolla over safety concerns.

The move was made after nine Corolla customers reported that their cars automatically accelerated. The state public prosecutor’s office said in an online statement on Tuesday that the problem is blamed on accelerator pedals sticking underneath floor mats. Local government said the issue was “putting in danger the lives of occupants”.

According to the prosecutor’s office, sales of Corollas may resume when Toyota alters the floormats in its current models. Toyota has recalled over eight million vehicles worldwide due to acceleration problems.

Thousands expected to protest at Forbes Global CEO conference in Sydney

Posted: July 7th, 2020 by Admin

Tuesday, August 23, 2005

Organisers of a protest march planned to occur in Sydney next week are predicting thousands of people will attend. The protest is timed to coincide with the Forbes Global CEO Conference, which starts at the Sydney Opera House the same day.

The action is being promoted by various trade unions and peace and social justice groups, and co-ordinated by the 30A Network, which is an informal association of such groups. A number of reasons have been given for the protest, including the Iraq War, globalisation, and the Australian government’s planned industrial relations changes.

The 30A network website is reporting that the protest has been endorsed by the NSW Fire Brigade Employees’ Union, the Maritime Union of Australia, the Australian Services Union, and the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union.

The NSW Police Service will provide free security for the conference. This is potentially controversial, as other events such as football games have to pay for police to attend. The decision has been criticised by the NSW Police Association, as they claim it will leave inner city stations short-staffed. The opposition police spokesman Mike Gallacher echoed the Association’s criticism, saying that the conference organisers should foot the bill themselves.

“Even though ASIO have identified it as a risk coming to Sydney, they can be guaranteed the best policing resources available in this country to hold their conference in a safe environment, but to do so they should have been asked to pay their way, to pay the bill,” he said.

A spokesman for the Police Minister said that frontline policing would not be affected.

New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma defended the use of taxpayers’ money on policing the conference.

“The advice I have is that ASIO have declared this as a medium-security event, which classifies it as warranting security. They do expect up to 2,000 protesters and if the local agricultural show had been subject to the same security assessment with potential protesters, they too would receive the same security response,” he said.

At least 55 killed by Hurricane Katrina; serious flooding across affected region

Posted: July 4th, 2020 by Admin

Tuesday, August 30, 2005File:Katrina damage.jpg

Thirty people died in the Gulf of Mexico resort of Biloxi when Hurricane Katrina demolished a water-side apartment block, Harrison County emergency operations center spokesman Jim Pollard told AP. However, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has yet to confirm the news.

At least another twenty have died across the rest of Harrison County; this number is expected to rise. The Governor of the state of Mississippi has asked people to stay away from the area for several days. The towns of Biloxi and Gulfport took the brunt of the hurricane’s 140mph+ winds after it veered away from New Orleans as it made landfall.

Three more people have been killed by falling trees and at least two died in traffic accidents resulting from the hurricane. Hundreds of people have been rescued by boat and helicopter from the roofs of houses cut off by flood water.

The hurricane has caused a storm-surge — the force of the winds has piled the waters of the Gulf of Mexico against the coastline, causing widespread flooding reaching at least a mile inland in places.

A levee on the Lake Pontchartrain canal has broken in two places, causing massive flooding. Some parts of New Orleans are now under 20 feet of water. Flooding seems to have reduced to increasing at a rate of one inch an hour and Army Corps of Engineers are on the scene of the breaks. At aproximately 10:00 PM Central city officials confirmed that a major floodpump has failed, which could result in an additional nine feet of floodwaters.

The western part of New Orleans has been flooded after a two-block long stretch of the 17th Street Levee gave way on Monday afternoon. Much of the city lies below sea level and depends on flood defences to keep it safe. One hospital — that has 1,000 patients inside — has been surrounded by the water. The vice-president of the center has described seeing whitecaps on the waves of the water in a street outside.

A water main pipe has failed, meaning that tap water has been contaminated with flood water, and is no longer safe to drink.

The mayor of the city has described seeing “bodies floating in the water.”

Some 10,000 people remain in the Superdome stadium, despite the electricity supply failing leaving the indoor stadium in darkness. The coverings of the concrete roof of the structure have been stripped away by the wind.

Electricity supplies to 1.3 million people across the south eastern parts of the US have been damaged, and it could be months before power is restored to all affected.

Two oil rigs have broken free of their moorings in the Gulf of Mexico, and a third drifted into a bridge in Mobile Bay, Alabama.

Katrina has now been downgraded to tropical storm status as it moves northwards across the US, and wind speeds have dropped to 60mph. The current death toll does not include the 11 killed in Florida when Katrina struck there last week.

We can’t forget just because we have black nominees this year.” Bradford Young, cinematographer of Arrival, is the first African-American to be nominated and Joi McMillon – editor of Moonlight – is the first non-white woman to receive nomination. Lynne Curtin Facelift Surgeon

Lynne Curtin Facelift Surgeon

by

Abigail Aaronson

After revealing amazing results, more and more people were drawn to the Lynne Curtin facelift surgeon. Wondering what it would be like to make an appointment? Here are some of the issues and procedures that were discussed during this season of Real Housewives of Orange County.

Mother’s Procedures

When meeting with the Lynne Curtin facelift surgeon, she expressed a problem in the way that her face looked. After working out and working hard to maintain her body, she felt that her face just didn’t fit with the rest or her appearance. While some of her issues came from sun damage, others were a result of normal aging.

In order to change her appearance, the Lynne Curtain facelift surgeon worked to remove some of the skin that was sagging and lifter her forehead and brows to create a smoother texture across her face. While this type of surgery creates a major change, the scars are left in places that are rarely noticed by others including the hairline and behind the ears.

When everything was completed, she was thrilled with the results and suggested that the procedures had taken years off the look of her face. This gave her an added sense of confidence and made her feel as though her body was more complete and matched better overall. Others around her also agreed that the surgery made a change for the better.

Daughter’s Consultation

Her daughter went with her to consult with the Lynne Curtain facelift surgeon; however, her daughter was interested in something completely different. She first expressed an interest in removing a bump from her nose in order to give her face a more attractive appearance. At a later date, this operation was performed.

Her other request was breast augmentation. After hearing more, the doctor recommended that this be something to put off until a later date. Because of her age and current rate of development, it was determined that the augmentation would not only be something that may be unnecessary, but could also be something that does more damage than good.

Family Consultation

Today, more and more mothers and daughters are coming in together for a consultation for procedures that change the appearance. Mothers are looking to recapture a more youthful look from the past and daughters are looking to make the changes they want early in life to have time to enjoy them. Instead of putting something like this off, they want to be able to feel confidant right away.

If this is something that you, or a family member is interested in, take the time to make a consultation. You can even contact the Lynne Curtain facelift surgeon to find out how a similar operation would be able to give you a more healthy and youthful appearance. By meeting with a doctor, you are able to find out what you can have done and get an idea of the procedure’s price range. Also, if someone else in the family wants to make a change, take them along with you.
